Venetians love their dogs, that’s plain to see. They dote on them like another child, carrying them around and taking them everywhere including into bars, shops and even restaurants. And why not, they’re a great conversation starter and who doesn’t like stroking and petting a friendly woof! But this winter I’ve been taken a-back by just how many Italian dogs wear clothes! Proper clothes like sweaters, hoodies, quilted jackets and waterproofs! So call the “puparazzi” – it’s time for some of the latest fashions from Venice’s catwalk…….or should that be designer dog walk (sorry!)!!
By the way, having seen so many small woofs modelling clothes around the piazze and alleys of the city I Googled it for veterinarian advice and sure enough, small dogs can need sweaters or coats to keep warm outside or even just hanging around the house!
The pooches especially in need of dressing are those with light fur, old or ill dogs and those not genetically suited for their environments – they may originally come from warmer climes than those in which they find themselves!
Plus if you keep your house warm during the winter a dog could need a jumper before going outside just as much as you would!
But beware, big dogs or those from colder places like Huskies, do not need sweaters and could overheat which can be dangerous too!
So, there we have it! As always, it seems that Italians lead the way in fashion, not just for the two legged, but also the four legged although I’ve yet to see any dogs in either of these designer dogs cashmere coats below – it may have something to do with the cost I guess! Anyone for walkies……I’ll get my coat!!
