Italian fashion for designer dogs!

Venetians love their dogs, that’s plain to see. They dote on them like another child, carrying them around and taking them everywhere including into bars, shops and even restaurants. And why not, they’re a great conversation starter and who doesn’t like stroking and petting a friendly woof! But this winter I’ve been taken a-back by just how many Italian dogs wear clothes! Proper clothes like sweaters, hoodies, quilted jackets and waterproofs! Here are some of the latest fashions from Venice’s catwalk…….or should that be dog walk (sorry!)!!

By the way, having seen so many small woofs modelling clothes around the piazze and alleys of the city I Googled it for veterinarian advice and sure enough, small dogs can need sweaters or coats to keep warm outside or even just hanging around the house!

The pooches especially in need of dressing are those with light fur, old or ill dogs and those not genetically suited for their environments – they may originally come from warmer climes than those in which they find themselves!

Plus if you keep your house warm during the winter a dog could need a jumper before going outside just as much as you would!

But beware, big dogs or those from colder places like Huskies, do not need sweaters and could overheat which can be dangerous too!

So, there we have it! As always, it seems that Italians lead the way in fashion, not just for the two legged, but also the four legged although I’ve yet to see any dogs in either of these designer cashmere coats below – it may have something to do with the cost I guess! Anyone for walkies……I’ll get my coat!!

Do you think cats will dress up soon? Mine just get into my bed when they feel cold!

I can’t see cats putting up with some of the costumes I’ve seen Francis, although maybe something stylish might be OK?! Otherwise I think cats have definitely got the right idea – find a radiator, warm knee or spot in front of the fire and curl up for a snooze! If reincarnation exists I’d like to come back as a cat I reckon….what do you think?? :o)

Love it. How very delightful. We dress our doggies in winter here also particularly down south

Can you pick up a couple of those cashmere woolies in Boos size please Lizzie, she need something to wear when playing in the muddy puddles ! Yeah right : )

    • lizbert1 says:

I already have Craigus! Thought they’d come in handy when her LV and Armani outfits are in the laundry!!!! Alternatively I can ask Mum to knit her something – seriously! ;o)

      • Fishink says:

Lol I like you’re style Miss L. I think you’re poor mum would be knitting forever to make her a woolie big enough. Unless she likes knitting THAT much, I wouldn’t put her through the torture lol Very kind of you to offer (on her behalf) all the same : )

      • lizbert1 says:

Well she’s just done cardigans for the girls so she has a window in her schedule!! No worries though, I’m sure Boo will be toasty with all her running around!!! ;o)

      • Fishink says:

I think she’d have to meet Boo to make a good guess at a pattern size, could be tricky otherwise. Muchly appreciate the thought tho : )

      • lizbert1 says:

Heehee!! Boo seems to like your jumpers very well anyway, so at least she’s not going cold! ;o)
