Weekly Photo Challenge – Serenity

This week’s theme is serenity which immediately made me think back to a trip that I took with my Mum to Lake Garda, Northern Italy, nearly two years ago.

The trip was a little impromptu. Mum was already booked to go whilst I only booked at the last minute, joining her on a week-long tour around the lake and its surroundings. But it was well worth it as Lake Garda is beautiful, relaxing and extremely peaceful.

The long, thin lake sits in the north-east of Italy, between the regions of Lombardy, Veneto and Trentino Alto-Adige. Its history dates back to the Romans and beyond with traces of the original inhabitants still visible in places such as Desanzano del Garda.

The history is fascinating, but we were touched most by the lake’s tranquillity, its peacefulness and the feeling of serenity walking along its shores.

Ultimately after a long week staying on Lake Garda, we completely fell in love with it and it’s beautiful coastal villages including Sirmione, Limone sul Garda and Tremosine.

If you have the opportunity to visit, even for just a day, we can heartily recommend it. And in the meantime, if you have a favourite place to relax, leave me a comment and let me know.

The pictures beautiful houses and cypress trees along the shore make me think Italians built and planted them with a view to being painted (and later, photographed).

That’s a wonderful thought Julian. Certainly Italians have historically had a reputation for designing classic gardens – maybe they just have better design and spacial awareness than others or its just in their genes. Either way, I agree, it makes a very picturesque scene! :o)
