Weekly Photo Challenge – Shadowed

Seeking shade around an old wellhead

Seeking shade around an old wellhead

For this week’s Photo Challenge, the theme is shadowed and the task is to find the shadows.

I’ve chosen 3 shots taken in the Dorsoduro district of Venice last summer as I love the way the shadow of the trees dapples the wellhead in the centre of the courtyard providing shelter from the midday sun.

The shade softens the harshness of the light, but hides the ornately carved wellhead, only revealing small details in the flashes of sunlight.

Ultimately the tree provides a shady refuge for overheating visitors whilst the wellhead provides a seat to rest their weary feet. An ideal combination for a hot summer day I’d say and I’d love to know what you think so please leave a comment and tell me what your favourite shady spot is!

And if you like these photos have a look at more via the Weekly Photo category in the menu to your right. Ciao for now!

Yeah, I wish it was that hot now!! Have got 2 jumpers and a T-shirt on and am still cold here in Venice tonight!!!! Hope all’s good with you Lia and thanks for stopping by as always! :o)

      • Me too… I am dreaming of July… It is actually about ten degrees warmer from last week’s freeze in NYC ! I can imagine Venezia is chilly and damp? Let’s hang in there and summer will arrive quickly!!! It is always a pleasure to read you!!! Buona notte!

Indeed! I do like winter for its snow and crisp clear skies but I’m definitely a warm weather person! And thanks for the compliments, its always great to read your posts too as you paint some great pictures of life over there! Keep ’em coming!! :o)

Thanks Julian! I was having one of my wanders with my camera and happened to spot them as they were in the best shady spot!! The only bench in the square was in full sunshine and was like a hotplate so I kept walking and got an icecream to cool down!!!!! ;o)
